After Life: The Revival is the first series in the Starfall timeline. It's technically no longer canon, but the events within are still relevant to later series. It released from July 30th to November 11th, 2023, and had a total of 5 episodes (plus an epilogue). It's mostly an urban fantasy drama, but it also has some strong STRONG crime and mystery elements. It's set around 2006-2007
Hendrix, a werewolf born and raised in New York, moves into a small town. He's greeted by his neighbors, Vanessa, Gemini, and Aviva, who invite him over for dinner. The next day, Hendrix goes out job hunting, and lands a job working with Ivan at the electronic store. Meanwhile, Vanessa (without really consulting her roommates) decides to host a welcoming party that night to help get Hendrix introduced to the neighborhood.
At the party, Hendrix is hanging out by himself like a loner, so Vanessa asks Ivan (who is also Gemini's boyfriend) to go and talk to him. Hendrix and Ivan make morbid small talk until Hendrix mentions finding Gemini attractive. Ivan blows up and tells Hendrix to stay away from his boyfriend. This bums everyone out, so Vanessa ends the party. The next morning, Miley, the town reporter, shows up at Hendrix's house in order to interrogate him about the fight (it's a very small town). Hendrix realizes that this is getting out of hand, and goes to apologize to Ivan again. Ivan, at the behest of Gemini, forgives him, on the condition that he stays away from Gemini.
Hendrix sees Ivan and Gemini about to go on a date and flirts with Gemini directly in front of Ivan. Ivan gets upset about this, and Hendrix insists that he was just paying a compliment, platonically. Later, Hendrix decides to throw a party of his own, to properly induct himself into the neighborhood, and runs into Ryder in the store. Ryder says that he's never seen Ivan blow up like that, but also he doesn't really know him, so maybe that's normal. Ryder also loans Hendrix some speakers for his movie party, revealing that he lives with Alexis, the succubus who runs a rival cafe to Vanessa, and who is having an incredibly suspicious-sounding phone conversation.
Hendrix invites the whole neighborhood to his party, including Gemini (who he flirts with again) and Ivan (who sees this again). This seems to be the final straw for Ivan, who begins lashing out at everyone trying to intervene, and revealing his possessive and verbally abusive tendencies towards Gemini. Ivan is kicked out of the party, and it continues as planned. The party ends with Hendrix giving Gemini his number, for if he "ever wants to hang out", and Aviva and Vanessa voice their support.
After an 8 MONTH TIMESKIP (something we only learned happened towards the end of the episode) Our cast is headed to the town's fall festival. Hendrix rides the ferris wheel with Gemini, who has been trying and failing to break up with Ivan for all this time (and also allegedly does not know that Holden is romantically interested in him). Ivan shows up, trying to find Gemini, and, shock of all shocks, ends up fighting Hendrix again. Hendrix defends his right to hang out with Gemini as a friend, and Ivan punches him in the face and threatens his life before stalking off.
When they find Gemini after the chaos, he's in an obvious state of distress. Aviva and Vanessa comfort him, and then Hendrix shows up and they leave them alone. Hendrix apologizes to Gemini for putting him in this position, and confesses that he's in love with him. Gemini says that he shares the same feelings, and plans on breaking up with Ivan so that they can be together. We fade to black...and then see Ivan telling a mystery figure to "get it done" whatever it takes.
The next day, Gemini is completely missing, with the window of his room shattered. Aviva and Vanessa go to Hendrix's house, hoping he might be there, but to no avail. Hendrix joins the search, and asks Alexis if she's seen Gemini. Alexis says she hasn't seen him in a few days, but she can use her magic to locate him. Then Hendrix is knocked unconsious in the doorway.
When he wakes up, he's tied up in Ivan's basement alongside Gemini. Ivan is furious that they've been going behind his back to be together, despite their insistence to the contrary. The situation escalates until Ivan kills Gemini, just Alexis comes into the basement, demanding to know what's happening. Miley directs the police to the building, and they rescue Hendrix and arrest Alexis for the murder, despite her claims of innocence.
Just as everything seems at its bleak conclusion, we recieve a flashback of Miley's boss yelling at her to find a hard-hitting story. She calls Ivan, who is her cousin, to complain about the situation, and he proposes a murder case to really make the headlines. It's revealed that Miley was the mysterious shadowed figure that had been stalking around town.
Two weeks after Gemini's death, we see Hendrix mourning at his grave. We then cut to Gemini in purgatory, being guided through reincarnation by a woman dressed in gold and white. In the epilouge, we see Hendrix's afterlife (after he is strongly implied to have committed suicide), and he is guided through reincarnation by a different, similarly dressed, person. Gemini is reincarnated into Zion from the cancelled series, Disillusioned, and Hendrix is reincarnated into Holden from the same series.
Hendrix is a big city werewolf with notable struggles with mental health. He's persistent and loyal, and seems to have been working on improving his social skills since moving into town. He was something of a loner early on, not seeking out any conversations or connections until after Vanessa's party. He's got some strong homewrecker tendencies, but his nonchalant mannerism make them hard for others to pick up on.
Ivan is an unstable, incredibly possessive and jealous werewolf.
Hendrix and Gemini are reincarnated into alternate versions of Hex Hallows' Holden and Zion, and it's been implied that, in the canon timeline, their souls are currently in Vega and Zion.
Aviva is a teacher at the high school in Hex Hallows
